David A. Van Gorkom

 1960-1965

While ministering in Twining , Michigan, the Rev. David A. Van Gorkom accepted the unanimous call to become the 17th pastor of the Bethel Baptost Church. he arrived in the midst of the remodeling of the front of the Church building in the spring of 1960, accompanied by his wife Barbara, and their three children: Sheryl, Timothy, And David. It was under Pastor Van Gorkoms ministry that the Sunday School saw its most stable gains and the physical work of the church was continued. The entire church remodeling was dedicated in a special meeting on May 21, 1961. Pastor Von Gorkim’s twin brother, Paul, was never far away and pastored at Sault Ste. Marie while the Van Gorkoms were here. Conbining musical talents with his brother and family, th Van Gorkims often treated the churches to musical events which proved to be tremendous blessings.In the year 1964, the Sunday School average attendance was 175. In December of 1965, Pastor Van Gorkom ended five and one-half years of fruitful service In Manistique to pastor in Wentworth Wisconsin.
