Charles Hord
1886-1888
Rev. Charles Hord was welcomed at the church business meeting,
July 5,1886. He was born in Sweden January 1,1858 and came to
America when he was seven years old. He was converted in early
Youth and joined a First Baptist Church on the East Coast. He returned
to Sweden and studied in Bethel Seminary at Stockholm. After returning
to the United States, Manistique became his first pastorate. During the two
and a half years he served the church here, the membership grew and it
pleased the Lord during the last spring to give a powerful revival.
Nineteen were baptized at one time. The church at this time definitely
decided that a house of worship should be built. This decision never
materialized during Rev. Hord’s ministry, due to the fact that in these
early days of the church the members were few and poor, and the work
was conducted under a financial handicap. He resigned September 30, 1888,
to accept a call to Brainerd, Minnesota. He also served churches in Battle
Lake, Henning and Alexandria, Minnesota. He retired from the ministry
and settled in Fergus Falls, Minnesota where he also died April 30, 1930.
